School Holiday Activities

Need something to entertain your children in the school holidays? Send them to Antarctica! Well…. not literally, but the next best thing! Enrol them in our Holiday Programme and we’ll entertain them and educate them about all things Antarctic!

Parents and caregivers! Do your children want adventure? Do your children want fun? Do your children want excitement?

Then during the October 2017 school holidays have them join the Antarctic Explorers Programme.

Children will discover our Little Blue Penguins, ride the Hagglund, find out how to survive in Antarctica, go exploring around the centre, play games and much, much more!

The programmes will be running Monday to Friday from 2 – 6 and 9 -13 October (inclusive).

Antarctic Explorers:
This is suitable for children aged 6 to 13 years and runs from 8.45am – 5.00pm. Cost $59. Scroll down page for more info.

Be a penguin ranger for a Day:
This is suitable for children aged 10 – 13 yrs and runs from 9.30 – 4.00pm. Cost $70. Scroll down page for more info.

Be a Husky Musher for a day:
This is suitable for children 8 – 13 years and runs from 9.30 – 4.00pm.
Note: We require minimum numbers and this programme may be cancelled if wet

For all programmes:
Bring your own morning tea, lunch, a drink bottle, a warm jacket and covered in shoes.
A yummy $9.50 lunch pack is available to pre-order. The pack consists of a sandwich, a jelly cup or similar, raisins, carrot sticks, cheese and crackers, a piece of fruit and a piece of slice such as lolly cake. Some dietary requirements are unable to be catered for.

To make a booking, please download the consent form below and email it to education@iceberg.co.nz. An email will be sent to secure your place in the programme. Final confirmation will be sent once payment has been made.

Antarctic Explorers Holiday Programme

Could you survive in Antarctica? Take the Antarctic Challenge! Pitch your tent and experience an Antarctic Field Camp. Find our what it takes to be a Hagglund driver. Design your own Antarctic Base. Discover penguins and other animals of Antarctica!

This is suitable for children aged 6 to 13 years and runs from 8.45am – 5.00pm. Children will discover our Little Blue Penguins, ride the Hagglund, find out how to survive in Antarctica, go exploring around the centre, play games and much, much more!

The cost for this programme is $59 per day. (Children 5 years of age may attend if they are accompanied by an older sibling).

Be a penguin keeper for a day

What does it take to look after the world's smallest penguin? What do they eat? Where do they sleep?
Join our penguin keepers at the International Antarctic Centre penguin encounter and assist them in their daily routine to look after the 'Little Blue' and 'White Flippered' penguins.

Children also get to take a Hagglund ride, experience an Antarctic storm, play in the snow and ice room, take a simulated 4D cruise to Antarctica, get up close with a real live husky and learn lots of other COOL Antarctic facts.
Bring your morning tea/lunch, a drink bottle, a warm jacket and please wear covered-in shoes.

Be a Husky musher for a day

Spend the day with a Husky Musher and several Husky dogs - learn what it takes to own a Husky, how to groom and feed a Husky and how to harness a Husky for sledding. Learn how Huskies can survive Antarctic sub-zero temperatures and become familiar with how to safely approach dogs. See how 'Husky Rescue New Zealand' is finding new homes for Huskies and experience an Antarctic storm with the Huskies in the snow and ice room.

With these new skills you will then get the opportunity to drive a Husky driven rig.
Other fun activities such as the Hagglund ride are included.

Bring your morning tea/lunch, a drink bottle, a warm jacket and please wear covered in shoes.
