Bricks 4 Kidz – Weekend STEAM Robotic Programme

Where fun and education come together!

Build on your children’s learning experience and take it to the next level with fun and educational Bricks 4 Kidz Weekend STEAM Robotic Programme at the International Antarctic Centre!

Through learning, building and coding, this programme introduces STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths) concepts related to real-world science at International Antarctic Centre! Lessons are designed around children’s interests, with a great range of Antarctic themes including Marine Biology, Space Technology, Antarctic Transportation, and Meteorology.

A daily session consisting of Bricks 4 Kidz Motorised Model Building®, WeDo Coding®, and Colour Kit/Mosaic Building® to bring out the scientists, engineers, artists and mathematicians in every child. They will learn about everything from building with gears, axels and friction pins, to Coding Robotics, Space Exploration, and much more fun activities around International Antarctic Centre.

Marine Biology

Take a dive into the deep Antarctic oceans and explore the vast marine life below. We will be taking a closer look at the way whales communicate by building our own LEGO® Whale Models and coding them to listen to the sounds of the ocean around them. Listen to the language of tohorā (whales) at the Whale Wall in the International Antarctic Centre Gallery, and experience a 4D boat experience across the Southern Oceans where tohorā live.

  • Ages: suitable for children aged 6 – 12 yrs
  • Available: Seal, Penguin (or Whale – to be confirmed) – Dates TBC
Antarctic Transport

Let’s explore the way we travel to and around Antarctica. From flying over the ice in Helicopters to driving across it in Hägglunds, the ways we can explore the ice are limitless. We can build, code and test LEGO® models ourselves in the real-world environment right here in the International Antarctic Centre! Chill out in our Storm Dome where you’ll test your vehicles on real ice and snow. Learn about the history of transport across the ice with our huskies. Experience a ride on a real Hägglund and learn from the driver about the mechanics of these special Antarctic machines.

  • Ages: suitable for children aged 6 – 13 yrs
  • Available: Helicopter, Sleigh – Dates TBC

Antarctic weather can be dangerous and unpredictable plus Antarctica is one of the windiest and sunniest places on earth! How can we build an environmental Antarctic Base using green energy? Let’s build, code and test Bricks 4 Kidz LEGO® Meteorology models to make energy from this extraordinary weather by creating our own Windmills or Solar Panels. In the International Antarctic Centre gallery see how Scott Base will be rebuilt supported by renewable energy including wind turbines. Experience the extreme of an Antarctic Storm. Build your own base using Duplo, add your energy generation systems and test out whether they work in the International Antarctic Centre.

  • Ages: suitable for children aged 6 – 13 yrs
  • Available: Solar Panel, Windmill – Dates TBC

Take to the skies with our International Antarctic Centre Aviation day, where we investigate the ways we take to the sky in Antarctica. We will be building, coding, and testing a range of flying LEGO® models to excite our future pilots and engineers alike. Experience what it is like to be in a C17 or an LC130 Aircraft at the International Antarctic Centre. In the Storm Dome feel the high winds that these aircraft may need to fly through. Through hands-on activities and experiential learning, you will be able to understand the mission-critical role flight and aviation play in Antarctic logistics.

  • Ages: suitable for children aged 6 – 13 yrs
